According to the World Health Organisation, every 60 seconds, 3 children die from vaccine-preventable causes. That is why the Alliance for Child Vaccination was born, since immunisation is the most effective way of promoting global health: it can ensure survival, the first right of childhood.

  • More than 4.5 million children living in areas of Africa and Latin America where access to healthcare is difficult have been vaccinated in the first 10 years of the child vaccination programme that ”la Caixa” Banking Foundation implements in a partnership with Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, with the support of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and in cooperation with ISGlobal.
  • Over the decade since 2008, when ”la Caixa” Banking Foundation first launched the Alliance for Child Vaccination in cooperation with Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, 4,508,673 children have received pentavalent and pneumococcal vaccines.
  • This was made possible by more than 25 million euros donated through a fundraising scheme that is a pioneer in Europe: through the “Matching Fund” formula, the Alliance multiplies all donations received by four
  • A further 752 CaixaBank employees and 205,267 ordinary citizens have also shown their solidarity by responding to micro-donation campaigns.
  • The joint efforts of ”la Caixa” Banking Foundation and Gavi have reached a total of 10 countries in Africa and Latin America, including Bolivia, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Ethiopia, Honduras, Mauritania, Nicaragua, Northern Sudan and Tanzania
  • In recent years, moreover, the Alliance has focused particularly on Mozambique, providing the pneumococcal vaccine to combat pneumonia, at present the leading cause of child mortality
