Caja de Ahorros y Pensiones de Barcelona, "la Caixa", was set up more than 100 years ago with the aim of fostering savings and age benefits, objectives which today may seem to be purely financial in nature but which, in that historical context, represented a real vehicle for helping the poorer classes to have some autonomy and security in their family life.
This social concern has been maintained over the years and, today more than ever, ”la Caixa”, which is now the first saving banks and the third largest financial entity in Spain , can affirm its loyalty to those same principles of social and economic commitment that inspired the founders of the Caja de Pensiones.
In 2012, "la Caixa" earmarked to their Welfare Projects ("la Caixa" Foundation) a total of 500 million euros, for the fifth consecutive year, and reaffirms its commitment to those who most need support.
